TMC MLA Shmeem Ahmad's, West Bengal house raid

West Bengal Police raided the residence of Shibpur (Howrah) Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Shamim Ahmed (alias 'Gabbar') in May 2026, following allegations of his involvement in post-poll violence and crude bomb attacks against BJP workers.

Raids and Discoveries
  • The Secret Hideout: During the raid on his G.T. Road property, police discovered a concealed, luxury underground basement hidden behind a trap door.
  • Lavish Amenities: The concealed flat featured high-end amenities, CCTV surveillance, and opulent furnishings. Local and social media reports went viral claiming investigators uncovered gold-plated furniture and themed beds, though authorities have primarily highlighted the hidden, illicit structural nature of the basement.
Legal Repercussions
  • Arrest: Shamim Ahmed was located and arrested by police from a rented flat in Chembur, Mumbai. He was subsequently brought back to Howrah on transit remand.
  • Controversy: The police action sparked significant political debate after visuals circulated online showing the once-influential local leader being publicly paraded on the streets by authorities.
