Schieffelin Institute of Health Research and Leprosy Centre, My First Job Karigiri

Brief History of The Schieffelin Institute of Health Research & Training Centre, formerly known as SLRTC Karigiri

The Schieffelin Institute of Health Research & Training Centre, formerly known as SLRTC Karigiri, has now been in existence for 50 years. It was started as a facility exclusively for patients suffering from the dreaded scourge of leprosy. Today it is 150 bedded General Hospital, offering general medical care, but with a focus on leprosy.

I have joined at Schieffelin Leprosy Research and Training Centre (now Schieffelin Institute of Health – Research and Leprosy Centre (SIH-R & LC), Karigiri as Stenographer during 1986 and worked till December, 1989 in the Administration Section under Administrative Officer, Mr.Augustine  P.Aiyyathurai and my senior was Thiru.R.Gopal.

Dr.Earnest P.Fritschi was the Director of SLR&TC and it was a great opportunity to work with him.

Dr.Samuel Sololomon was the Head of the Department of Orthopaedic Department and Dr.Parthibarajan was the Chief Doctor at Orthopaedic Dept.

I had worked there for 3 years in Administration Wing as well as in Data Processing Unit under Thiru.George Varghese, Computer Consultant.

One Ms.Shanthi, Vellore was also worked in the Data Processing Unit  as Programmer and later she got job in Central Government and resigned.

One Mr.Sheela, was also  joined along with me as Stenographer in  Laboratory Wing later she also got job in overseas and left.

It was a great opportunity to work at SLR&TC, Karigiri which is dedicated to provide services to the Leprosy Patients and rehabilitation of cured. I thank Mr.Sivasankaran, Social Worker of SLR&TC  for his help to achieve this level.

I thank the Management of  SIH-R & LC for having given me the opportunity to work and I wish them that Almighty may give them to achieve many more milestones in the years to come.
