From Folk Singer to Bihar’s Youngest MLA!
25-year-old folk singer Maithili Thakur has made history by winning the
Alinagar Assembly seat in the 2025 Bihar elections.
Contesting on a BJP ticket, she defeated her closest rival, Binod Mishra of RJD, by a margin of 6,954 votes, securing 70,044 votes against Mishra’s 63,090. This makes her poised to become the youngest MLA in Bihar’s history, and her victory also marks the first BJP win in Alinagar since 2008.
Maithili Thakur campaigned on a platform emphasizing development and youth empowerment. Her key priorities for Alinagar include:
Infrastructure improvements: Upgrading roads, improving electricity supply, and better sanitation.
Education and skill development: Expanding access to quality schools, vocational training, and programs to empower young people in the region.
Healthcare: Strengthening primary health services, increasing availability of medicines, and improving local clinics and hospitals.
Cultural promotion and tourism: Supporting Mithila arts and crafts, preserving local traditions, and renaming Alinagar as Sitanagar to highlight the area’s cultural heritage.
Her election campaign was noted for connecting with youth and women voters, leveraging her popularity as a celebrated folk singer while focusing on tangible development issues.
With this victory, Maithili Thakur enters the Bihar Assembly as a young, culturally rooted leader, aiming to combine governance with regional development and youth engagement.
